Despite the pandemic and lockdowns, the wheels are still turning at the Tribunal and Planning Panels. Highlights of VCAT Vol 8 No 2 are more on underdevelopment, with an apparent different approach in the latest cases; the relevance of planning and the health impacts of shisha smoking; the continuing debate whether compliance with Clause 55 standards automatically meets objectives; and two Supreme Court decisions concerning the Mt Atkinson landfill expansion and permit conditions on a drainage levy. Highlights of PPV Vol 8 No 2 are on whether a DDO or DPO should apply to strategic redevelopment sites; the need for more height in the Pakenham Activity Centre; whether mandatory height controls are absolutely necessary for activity centres; and whether there should be local policy to protect high pressure gas pipelines.
